History & Discovery Timeline
Kisspeptin-10 was derived from the kiss1 gene product (metastin), discovered in Hershey, Pennsylvania in 1996. Kisspeptin-10 represents the minimal active decapeptide fragment.
What it is: It is a synthetic 10-amino-acid peptide fragment of kisspeptin. It falls under the Tissue Repair/Immune (endocrine) category.
Proposed Mechanisms & Research Findings: It acts as a potent agonist at the kisspeptin receptor (GPR54), stimulating the release of Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH), which in turn increases LH and FSH release.
Regulatory & Safety Status: It is not FDA approved. It is used in clinical research for fertility and hormone modulation. Gray-market forms carry severe risk of hypothalamic axis shutdown.
Athletic & Anti-Doping Status: Monitored by WADA. Since it stimulates luteinizing hormone and testosterone, its use may trigger doping violations under testosterone-stimulating agents.
